Bobby Fischer’s 21-move brilliancy

Bobby Fischer creates a chess masterpiece in only 21 moves against Robert Eugene Byrne, an International Master, at the 1963/1964 United States Chess Championship, held in New York. At 20 years young, Grandmaster Robert James Fischer was already among the world’s very best chess players. In this brilliancy, Fischer demonstrates how to inject multiple imbalances into a highly symmetrical position, how to properly highlight these differences to benefit oneself, and how to accurately assess the true value of the pieces as they rest on the board.

I’m a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8. The purpose of this channel is to share my knowledge of chess to help others improve their game. I enjoy continuing to improve my understanding of this great game, albeit slowly. Consider subscribing here on YouTube for frequent content, and/or connecting via any or all of the below social medias. Your support is greatly appreciated. Take care, bye. 😀

  1. So why did he release such a bad book for beginners?

  2. Do you like college or pro football? Or did you mean soccer?…….I mean I guess you could've……if you live in Canada or something……they call soccer by the name of football there don't they?……

  3. It's kinda insane how I sped up to 1.2x and it's like a normal video now. Regardless, awesome work and brilliant play by Fischer, my favorite player hands down. The other guy should have forfeited at knight e3, it's too much of a pimp smack.

  4. After knight took bishop couldn’t black rook have taken white knight for check covered by light square bishop leaving a take on white queen?

  5. Honored? Yeah sure, by taking away his citizenship?

  6. Great game…amazing ending…and highly useful commentary with an attached 'possible ending too' Great…and thank you! Good to add the 'pgn' moves too with the ECO code as well! nice touch for reference !

  7. chess game analysis videos are the only ones that i don't fast forward or skip after some minutes.

  8. Okay someone help me understand something.

In that set up, I believe you can still get out of that. So tell me why he used the queen to take the bishop on d4?

I would've moved the white castle from E1 to E4 this would've blocked B7 black bishop, and threaten D4 black bishop.

While also protecting white castle with that c3 knight.

Which would from there either have black take the E4 white castle with B7 black bishop, which would then exchange with c3 white knight. Eliminating the threat.

Other option would be for d4 black bishop to take F2 white queen. Which would be exchanged with G1 king. Leaving an escape route out of that trap.

I think moving the queen was dumb and not the only option avaliable. Unless I'm missing something?

  9. I've had 0 patience to watch this until the end. The commentary is terribly slow.

  10. The brilliance of Bobby Fischer is how well he's able to control the board state and the reactions of his opponents. From watching his play it seems he has a deep understanding of optimal play (which his opponents do) and uses that to form a strategy in response.

The game was over when Fischer caused the white castle on his heavy side

  11. holy shit! this is literally the worst chess video i have seen, so slow, get to the point, make sense in what you are saying and trying to explain ffs

  12. Why white didn't play 21. Nf3 ? Unfortunately, this natural variation was not covered.

  13. I remember when Bobby and Calum used to play chess together.

  14. Wow, this is amazing, it's crazy to me how not only Bobby saw that amazing plan, but Byrne also saw what was about to go down as well, leading to a resignation.

  15. Let HIM FINISH! hate when people forfeit so frkin annoying.. I have so much respect for those who finish the game to the end even if they know they'll lose. I let people finish cuz you can learn even if you lose 💯

  16. I've had this exact same position except knight wasn't in the face of the opposing queen

  17. Just start the damn video and stop talking too much

  18. The word "symmetry" is pronounced "sim i tree" not "sem i tree."

  19. chess tournament games are more explaining while the players think

  20. Bro you spent 5 minutes talking about board symmetry… it’s not that complicated wtf can’t even finish this video

  21. rook to E2 for white vs Queen take bishop at end would leave white still looking at a draw with 2 rooks, a bishop and a knight. (if it have played out vs retire)

  22. Dumb question why would royal fork with took on e-2 not be the play?

  23. Your pace of narration is very good, really like the explanation and the use of graphic/visual aids.

  24. Thanks that was enjoyable you described like I did actually see it at the beginning of the game the bishop that Fischer took that was guarding his opponents king was a crucial move as you stated it all came together when you pointed out how pieces like the rook can deflect or pull another piece away as in a sacrifice to create a opening for an attack by other pieces good insight and tips thanks again

  25. Still, good observance! It's football season, and I tend to be a oral addict, If my voice sounds worn to you in this videotape.) I hope you enjoy this videotape. This was the 1st comment to this videotape, ever it got lost/ unpinned.

  26. I'm 70 also. I remember reading the move by move diagrams in the evening newspaper and playing them out on a chessboard. Fischer was a superstar!

  27. If my voice sounds worn to you in this video, good ear! It's football season, and I tend to be a vocal fan. 🙂 I hope you enjoy this video. This was the 1st comment to this video, somehow it got lost/unpinned.
