GM chess analysis of the best game prize from Gibraltar 2019, Gawain Jones vs Alejandro Ramirez.
A very exciting encounter which had many interesting tactical possibilities.
The 17th Gibraltar Masters is taking place in the Caleta Hotel, Gibraltar from 22-31 January 2019. The 10-round, 250-player open sees stars such as Aronian, MVL, Nakamura and So compete for a £25,000 first prize, while the women’s top prize of £15,000 has again attracted many of the world’s best female players.

K4f6+ Bxf6 Re8+ Qxe8 Kf6#
Is it correct?
I think the final position is a mate in 3 moves 1. Nexf6+, Bxf6 2.Re8!!+ Qxe8 3.Nxf6# 1-0
Last puzzle:
Nexf6+, Bxf6
Re8+, Qxe8
Nf6#
Re8+ Nice!
Gawain’s makes several computer moves in the opening. I believe he had prepared this line with computer analysis. Humans do not play g3 and then Bb5+ and Be2 and the moves that follow are very artificial and computer-like.
Nexf6, Bxf6, Re8+!!, Qxe8, Nxf6#
The final blow is Nef6+ Bxf6 Re8+ Qxe8 Nxf6#
wow. gm ginger .. brilliant commentary also
1. Nexf6+ Bxf6 2. Re8+ Qxe8 3. Nxf6#
Beautiful! Magnifico!
Nexf6+ Bxf6 Re8+ Qxe8 Nxf6# pretty cool
I always thought it was GAWWAAYAANN Jones

Nexf6+ Bxf6 Re8+ Qxe8 Nxf6#. BTW @15:18 Nc6 is winning too isn't it?? Nd7 is stronger I know but just wanted to make sure
What do you know about Stephen Hawking.. 😑
A very great video!
15:45 the checkmate is Nef6+ BxN Re8+! diverting the queen and then NxB#
You missed Qg7 and grabbing the rook at 7. 20
@12:40 I like positions that are "the gift that keeps on giving". Thanks Simon.
Let's see…..the best game prize? ….something very publishable…. something that is fun to look at…..something that sparks our interest…. okay, I got it, how about a hot date with Halle Berry, or Adriana Lima, or…<insert favorite>.
04:40 d5 pawn sac then Nd4 is a nice breakthrough.
06:00 "When a N gets to f5, it is worth a pawn. Garry Kasparov"
10:45 Amazing Tactic
12:50 Nice double checkmate!
14:50 One of the most beautiful combinations: Same idea as in Jones-Ramirez
Hadn't seen the game before, did not expect it to end in a draw. Great video Simon!
I think that you mentioned old game from old Yugoslavia by Bozidar Kazic! Am I correct? I think that late Vladimir Vukovic (great player and even better coach from old Yugoslavia) mentioned that game in one of his books…
