In chess, one normally needs two weaknesses to beat the opponent. One weakness in chess is usually not enough for a win because the opponent can defend. By creating a second weakness in opponents camp, you are making him defend two, so it is a lot easier to win. And this showed up in my game against a 87 years old man!
